Introduction:
I am Tristian Wallace, a 65-year-old individual who has faced the daunting challenges of Kidney Failure and successfully conquered Stage 4 Lung Cancer. These are two of the most financially burdensome diseases, especially in a country where healthcare support often leaves its citizens fearing financial ruin and homelessness once they step out of the hospital.
My Life Story:
I hail from Minnesota, where I attended Roosevelt High School and earned my Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Minnesota. Seeking fortune, I ventured to New York, securing a position as an accountant at a prestigious law firm within just three months of my arrival. Over the years, I worked as an accountant for various firms, amassing a comfortable life. In 1984, I married a wonderful woman, and together we had a son and two beautiful daughters. Sadly, in 2014, my beloved wife passed away, leaving me feeling profoundly alone.
In the wake of her loss, I turned to writing as a way to fill the void in my life. It quickly became a passion, offering solace during my spare hours after work. However, in 2016, my life took a drastic turn for the worse. Severe vomiting plagued me, even after ingesting water, signaling that something was terribly wrong. Medical examinations revealed that my kidneys had significantly contracted in size, and my hemoglobin levels had plummeted to a perilous 4. I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and initiated on dialysis treatment twice a week.
But fate had more challenges in store for me. On December 2, 2020, I received the devastating news of a lung cancer diagnosis, despite having quit smoking following my CKD diagnosis. My savings, accumulated over a lifetime, began to evaporate, drained by relentless hospital bills and medical check-ups. To supplement my income, I self-published a collection of my best short stories on Amazon, but sales remained disappointingly low, yielding less than $1,500 from fewer than 500 copies sold.
I find myself currently unemployed, struggling to secure work due to my dependence on dialysis. It is for this reason that I've established this page, as my book of short stories represents my lifeline, along with the support and donations, no matter how small, from compassionate individuals like you.
